Waiheke Island

 A Day Without a Plan

Saturday, March 8th
This past Saturday a small group of us decided to venture off to Waiheke Island. It's an island that has beautiful beaches and vineyards. We managed to get to the ferry with less than a minute to spare and departed to a new area of New Zealand. It was nice to escape the city for the clear blue water surrounding Waiheke. When we arrived at the ferry port, a local kiwi suggested we go to Onetangi Beach. Somehow we managed to catch the bus with seconds to spare and we were off to Onetangi Beach. As we played balancing act on the bus because there were no seats, we were able to take in all the beautiful scenery. Onetangi had the softest sand and bluest water we've seen yet. There was a wedding ceremony further down the beach that we wandered over to. We attended the wedding (in our a bathing suits) and got to meet the flower girl. My favorite part was when the bride high-fived all her bridesmaids who were wearing turquoise dresses. The bride had the prettiest red hair too (shout out to all my red headed family members)! As the day went on we soaked up the sun, grabbed some fish and chips and headed back to the ferry. Our timing could not have worked out more perfect because as we made our way back to Auckland we got to see the most amazing sunset. One of the crew members told us that he rides the ferry all the time and it is one of the best sunsets he's ever seen.
